Hyderabad: Odisha’s Works Department Secretary Nalinikant Pradhan has been named as the new President of Indian Road Congress (IRC).
The decision was made during selection of office bearers at the conclusion of the four day 77th IRC session in Hyderabad here on Sunday.
The appointment has brought laurel for the state since it has been occupied by an Odia only once before. Former Works Secretary SC Padhi had been the president of the congress.
This time around the fight for the top spot was very competitive as lobby and projection of Andhra Pradesh’s Works Secretary was made for the post but ultimately Nalinikant was chosen as the head of the organisation.
IRC was set up by Government of India in 1934 with the objective of promoting and encouraging the science for building and maintenance of roads.
