Security beefed up in J&K ahead of ULB polls
Srinagar: Ahead of the urban local body (ULB) elections, security arrangements have been tightened in some parts of Jammu and Kashmir to avoid any untoward situation.
The polls are scheduled to begin on October 8, followed by the second phase on October 10, third phase on October 13 and last phase on October 16. The counting of votes will be held on October 20.
On the other hand, a massive cordon and search operation has been launched in Shopian district on Sunday by the security forces after getting reliable inputs about the presence of militants in the area, a senior official informed.
According to sources, a joint team of police, CRPF and Army has launched the cordon and search operation in six villages including Sindor, Shirmal, Balpora, Ganowpora, Barthipora and Wathoo of Shopian district.
The operation was launched to flush out the militants from the area. Reportedly, the operation is still underway.
