Season’s first dengue death reported from Odisha capital

Bhubaneswar: The state witnessed the first dengue death of this year with the mosquito-borne disease claiming the life of a woman in the state capital on Thursday.

The deceased was identified as Pratima Das (48) of the BDA Colony in Chandrasekharpur area of Bhubaneswar. She was undergoing treatment at a private hospital after being tested dengue positive.

Her sister-in-law was also reportedly affected by dengue and undergoing treatment at the same hospital.

According to sources, the deceased and her sister-in-law were affected by dengue and admitted to the private hospital. The husband and nephew of the deceased woman alleged that the death was due to dengue. The condition of deceased’s sister-in-law was stable, hospital sources said.

Meanwhile, director of health services of the state Braja Kishore Brahma confirmed that the death of the woman was due to dengue. The dengue situation is alarming in the state, he added.
