New Delhi: In a huge relief for Malayalam actor Priya Prakash Varrier, the Supreme Court on Friday quashed two FIRs lodged against her over a song in her upcoming movie “Oru Adaar Love”.
The apex court also ruled that even in future no FIR can be lodged against the actress or those associated with the film “Oru Adaar Love”.
The 18-year-old Malayali actress, who shot to fame overnight after a wink scene in the song ‘Manikya Malaraya Poovi’ in the film went viral on the internet, had been accused of hurting sentiment by complainants Muqeeth Khan and Zaheer Uddin Ali Khan.
The Hyderabad Police had accepted the complaint and filed a case against the actor, listing the charge of “deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings.”
However, the SC observed that the picturisation of the wink scene in the song cannot be said to have hurt the religious sentiments of certain Muslims.
In February, the Supreme Court had put on hold all police cases against her.
