Chennai: In a major development in Tamil Nadu’s politics, the General Council of AIADMK on Tuesday passed a unanimous resolution expelling VK Sasikala as the general secretary of Tamil Nadu’s ruling party.
The two united factions of the ruling party also declared that their former chief late J Jayalalithaa will remain the “eternal general secretary” of the AIDMK.
During the meeting, the AIADMK General Council also adopted that those appointed by Jayalalithaa before her death will continue to hold their respective positions within the party, effectively removing VK Sasikala and her nephew TTV Dinakaran from all top posts.
The party general council passed 12 resolutions at a meeting held in Vanagaram on the outskirts of Chennai.
After former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa’s death in December, VK Sasikala, her longtime live-in aide, had taken over the party. Panneerselvam, who had filled in for Jayalalithaa as Chief Minister on several occasions, had taken over the top post in the government.
