Chennai: Many national media houses declared Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa dead at Apollo hospital in Chennai on Monday. However, hospital sources said she is still ‘very critical’ as per expert doctors and is on a special life support system on Monday. She had suffered a massive cardiac arrest on Sunday evening. Chennai police arrested two people in connection with the rumours including a software professional.
The veteran politician was admitted to hospital on September 22 following complaints of fever and dehydration.
An extremely popular film star in her youth in the 1960s, Jayalalithaa had become Tamil Nadu Chief Minister six times. The AIADMK party supremo was one of the most powerful and impactful leaders of modern Indian politics.
Following the much loved politician’s critical health, the state authorities have stepped up security arrangements. While paramilitary forces have been kept on standby to be deployed in case of emergency, the police has been asked to be present in full attendance since 7 am today.
Hundreds of the state CM’s followers have been outside the hospital overnight and many of them have been on fast too. A couple of cases of deaths owing to the painful news have also been reported by national media.
