Bhubaneswar/New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) today booked the retired Justice of Orissa High Court, IM Quddusi on charges of criminal conspiracy and corruption.
The central agency also conducted raids at his residence in New Delhi and his other occupied accommodations across the country.
The anti-corruption wing has registered a case against the retired Justice under section 120-B of IPC for his alleged involvement in settling a debarment order of the Medical Council of India (MCI) against a private medical college.
In connection with the case, the CBI sleuths had allegedly visited the house of a sitting judge of Orissa High Court in Cuttack which was earlier occupied by him.
The sudden visit of the visit to a sitting judge’s official residence at late night was not easily digested by the Orissa High Court Bar Association following which the association held a meeting and launched a cease work agitation till Thursday afternoon.
The irate lawyers also demanded a judicial probe into the raid at the official residence of the sitting judge.
A case has been registered against the investigating agency with Cantonment police in this regard.
However, a CBI spokesperson clarified that the sleuths had entered to the sitting judge’s residence in Cuttack as the address of the sitting judge was the former official address of Quddusi before his retirement.
It was not changed in records available with the agency and the officials had returned back from the main gate, the spokesperson added.
