New Delhi: Post demonetisation the biggest challenge for the government and cash management firms is to recalibrate the ATM machines to enable distribution of the new notes. This process may take up four to six weeks said officials of NCR, a major ATM making company.
Recalibration of the nearly one lakh NCR run ATMs-out of the total 2.2 lakh ATMs in the country would lead to machines dispensing Rs 2,000 notes, which are new and smaller size than demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes.
The recalibration process is not lengthy or time taking, but there is a need for at least one service engineer and one member from the custodian’s to be present. Hence the main reason it is taking time for recalibration is that the engineers have to go out physically and do the recalibration on each and every ATM, said NCR India.
Currently, NCR India has nearly 1,000 engineers under its fold and its ATM coverage spans over 4,000 locations across the country.
