Real estate firm director held for supplying contraband to Maoists
Chitrakonda: Police on Saturday arrested the director of a construction company from Doraguda village in Malkangiri district on charges of supplying contraband to Maoists of Kalimela.
The accused has been identified as Taraknath Paul (41), director of Asha Construction Company. He hails from MPV-38 village in the district.
Acting on a tip-off that the accused was moving suspiciously near Doraguda village, Chitrakonda police reached the spot and nab the accused while he was trying to supply the contraband. A bag containing contraband, 10 electrical detonators, one cell phone and Rs 61,738 in cash was seized from his possession.
During interrogation, Paul confessed that he was waiting for one militia who was supposed to take him and the contraband to the Maoist den in Kalimela.
A case has been registered against him under relevant Sections of the IPC. Further investigation is in progress, the police said.
At present, the company owned by Paul has taken the contract of M.I. department, R&B department, R.D. department of government. He is working with another contractor named Ardhendu Sarkar.
