Hyderabad: As Odisha bowlers failed to take wickets regularly on the fourth day on a seemingly batting friendly pitch at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad, the match ended in a draw.

While Odisha earned 3 points from the match over first innings lead, Assam managed to sneak one point.

Odisha declared their first innings on overnight score of 459 for 7 with a positive intention of trying to go for a win, but Assam batsmen were in no mood to go down easily. Both openers started for Assam slowly and Rahul Hazarika was the first to get out when the score was 41 in 18th over off Basant Mohanty’s bowling. Then Sibasankar  Roy joined with Rishav Das and added 71 runs before being out LBW by Dheeraj Singh for 39 runs. Then came Amit Verma who played 34 balls for his one run and was Dheeraj’s second wicket.

Rishav Das who had been batting like a snail got some quick runs towards the end and completed his half century before being out leg before by captain Govinda Poddar for 68 off 222 balls. First innings century maker wicketkeeper Kunal Saikia and skipper KB Arun Kartick played for the draw before both the captains decided to call it a day with Assam finishing innings at 164/4.

Govinda Poddar was declared man of the match for his first double century in his career.

Odisha now have 12 points from 5 matches and they went up one place to fifth position while Assam with one point from the match has now 8 points and they are stuck at seventh in the nine-team group-B.
