Trivandrum :After faltering in batting on the first day of the ninth round Ranji match, Odisha bowlers failed to make an impact on Jharkhand batsmen who scored 236 runs losing 5 wickets by the end of second day’s play at Trivandrum in Kerala and have taken a lead of 84 runs.
Despite the pitch favouring spin bowlers, Odisha’s main spinner Dhiraj Singh remained wicket less after bowling 24 overs while captain Govinda Poddar who is a part time spinner bowled 27 overs and bagged one scalp.
Jharkhand started the day on 9 for zero with openers Anand Singh and Sumit Kumar trying to negate the first hour, but failed as Kumar was the first batsman to get clean bowled off Suryakant pradhan’s bowling on team score of 22 in the sixth over of the day. Kumar made 13 off 26 balls.
Anand along with Virat Singh batted for more than 20 overs to add 63 runs before the former was sent to pavilion by Odisha captain Govinda Poddar. Anand scored 33 off 92 balls. Virat Singh before getting out on scoring 57 runs off Basant Mohanty’s bowling had added 33 runs with Captain Saurabh Tiwary. The skipper was batting well and had made 65 runs before getting retired hurt. Ishank Jaggi made 24 and Ishan Kishan scored 15 before getting out by Mohanty and Deepak Behera respectively. Kaushal Singh is batting on 22 along with Shahbaz nadeem who has faced six balls at the dying moment of the day and yet to score a run.
While Jharkhand spinners took 7 of Odisha wickets, Odia spinners failed miserably, but its pacers have taken 4 wickets. Jharkhand would try to win this match to top the points table of the group.
It’s noteworthy that this match was scheduled to be held at Dindigul in Tamil Nadu in the first week of December, but the demise of TN chief minister J Jayalalitha forced BCCI to postpone this match to Trivandrum.
