Bhubaneswar: Odisha Ranji team skipper Govind Poddar hit a century against Assam in the sixth round of Ranji Trophy at a match underway at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. Following Poddar’s 141 run till lunch break on third day of the match Odisha is still trailing by 51 runs with six wickets in hand in reply to Assam’s first innings total of 301 runs.
Poddar and last match’s century-maker Subhransu Senapati started the day at 150 for 2. But Senapati could not add more runs to his overnight score of 34 and was clean bowled by Arup Das. The captain who was not out on day 2 on 81 meanwhile completed his century off 186 balls. Abhishek Yadav who had hit a century in the previous match made 29 before being bowled out by Syed Mohammad. After the fall of 4 wickets veteran all-rounder Biplab Samantray has joined the skipper who is playing on 141. Samantray has made 10 and is batting.
Earlier, Assam managed to score 301 runs with a fluent first class century from wicketkeeper Kunal Saikia who made 135 and was the last man to get out in the innings and KB Arun Karthick the captain scoring 62. For Odisha pace bowler duo Basant Mohanty and Suryakanta Pradhan took 3 wickets each while Samantray scalped 2.
Odisha hope for scoring as many runs possible and taking a big lead so that they can put pressure on Assam batting line up tomorrow and go for an outright win against this East zone team.
