Bhubaneswar: Odisha started their first day of Ranji trophy’s eighth round match against Maharastra with a complacent 311 for 9 wickets.
On a good batting surface at Krishnagiri stadium in Wayanad, Kerala, Odisha batsmen failed to convert their starts and by the end of first day’s play the team score was 311 for 9.
The pick of the performance was from all rounder Biplab Samantaray and Dipak Behera with the duo adding up 98 runs for the seventh wicket partnership. Biplab meanwhile missed a chance to score a ton as he became the last man to get out at the day. Prior to this partnership Biplab had added 34 runs with Abhishek Yadav (32) and 45 with Subhransu Senapati (24). He even added 37 runs with Suryakant Pradhan who made a quick fire 15 off 10 balls and 15 runs with Basant Mohanty who is batting on 6.
Earlier Maharastra won the toss and elected to field first to take advantage of the morning session. The fielding side staged good bowling performance especially from A Sanklecha and MM Sayyad who took 4 and 3 wickets respectively.
