Jaipur: Polling is underway in Rajasthan on Friday. It is a key state for BJP as it is fighting to retain it.
According to an official spokesperson, polling began at 8 am in all the 51,687.
Observers maintained the outcome of the elections in Rajasthan, Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Mizoram is expected to set the tone for the Lok Sabha polls to be held next year.
Voting is taking place for 199 Assembly seats out of the 200.
The prominent candidates among the contestants are Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje (Jhalrapatan), Congress state president Sachin Pilot (Tonk) and former chief minister Ashok Gehlot (Sardarpura).
They are among the 2,274 candidates who are in the fray.
The election commission has put off polling in Ramgarh constituency of Alwar district following the death of Bahujan Samaj Party candidate Laxman Singh.
The results will be out on December 11.
