Bhopal: Hardik Patel, the face of Patidar agitation in Gujarat, was arrested in Neemuch on Tuesday when he tried to enter violence-hit Mandsaur in a bid to meet families of farmers who were killed in firing during an agitation.
Patel, who was stopped at Nayagaon toll collection booth on Rajasthan-Neemuch border, was later released on bail and escorted to Rajasthan, sources said.
A large contingent of police had been deployed at Nayagaon to prevent entry of Patel. The orders have been in place in the area since last week, when six farmers died when the police opened fire to control the crowd at a farmers’ protest.
The farmers in Madhya Pradesh had started protests earlier this month, demanding better prices for their crops and a loan waiver.
