Nanjing: Indian badminton star PV Sindhu lost her first World Championships gold medal, after fighting against the Spanish Carolin Marin in the Women’s singles summit clash of the BWF Championships here on Sunday.
Sindhu lost 21-19, 21-10 in the final and had to settle for a silver medal for the second straight time in World Championships.
Sindhu entered the finals of World Badminton Championship after registering a 21-16, 24-22 win over Japanese’s second seed Akane Yamaguchi in the semi-final clash on Thursday and faced Carolin Marin in the final today.
The star Indian shuttler seemed out of sorts throughout the match but managed to put up a good fight for some time in the first game. Marin however, simply blew her opponent away in the second to win the match in just 45 minutes.
