Mumbai: News of arrest of actress Rakhi Sawant that had spread throughout the day was rubbished by Punjab Police that said on Tuesday their team had not been able to arrest Sawant. Rather, they were returning empty-handed from Mumbai, said the police sources.
In a case filed against her for commenting over sage Valmiki, Rakhi had failed to appear before Ludhiana court on March 9 following which the court had issued an arrest warrant against her. A team of Punjab Police had been sent to arrest her.
That Sawant could not be arrested was confirmed by Ludhiana deputy commissioner of police (DCP) Dharuman Nimbale. The police team from Salem Tabri police station comprising two head constables including a woman head constable, Nimbale said, was on its way back to Ludhiana.
Though the team had indeed reached Andheri to arrest Sawant, as per police sources, the address was incorrect. Hence, the police team is returning empty handed.
The team said it will report the matter to the court. Next hearing of the case is on April 10.
