New Delhi: A special judge in Punjab on Tuesday awarded death sentence to a man after convicting him of kidnapping and murdering four members of a family in 2004.
Kushwinder Singh, a resident of Suhavi village in Khamano police station limits in Punjab, was sentenced to death for killing Kulwant Singh, his wife Harjit Kaur and their two children—Ramandeep Kaur and Arvinder Singh.
The CBI had registered a case in this regard on 16 July, 2007 following the direction of Punjab and Haryana High Court and taken over the investigation of the case registered earlier at Bassi Pathana police station.
According to sources, Kultar Singh, resident of Polo Majara village in Fatehgarh Sahib district, had lodged a complaint regarding kidnapping and murder of Kulwant Singh and his family on June 3, 2004. A case was registered at Police Station Bassi Pathana, District Fatehgarh Sahib (Punjab).
After completion of further investigation, CBI filed chargesheet against accused Khushwinder in the court of Special Judicial Magistrate, Patiala on September 8, 2014.
The Trial Court framed the charges against accused on September 26, 2014. During trial, prosecution examined 37 witnesses. The Trial Court found the accused guilty and convicted him.
