Protest at Bolangir Railway Station hits train service in Odisha
Bolangir: A number of goods and passenger trains were halted at the Bolangir Railway Station here following a dawn to dusk ‘rail roko’ observed by local organizations today demanding to begin construction work of Bolangir-Nuapada rail route.
The Union Government had approved Bolangir-Nuapada rail route project in 2014.
Hundreds of supporters from Patnagarh Citizen’s Forum, Patnagarh Bar Association, Zilla Adivashi Kalyan Sangh and Patnagarh Traders’ Association resorted to sloganeering reaching the Bolangir Railway Station in the morning and detained passenger trains passing through the station for around 15 minutes. Later, goods trains were also detained as a mark of the protest.
“We demand that railway department should start track construction work for Bolangir-Nuapada rail route immediately as the project is pending since 2014,” said a member of Patnagarh Citizen Forum.
“Even 3 years after the approval of the project, the state government has not started the land acquisition process for the new tracks that triggered to observe the protest”, he added.
Due to the protest, railway traffic on Titlagarh-Sambalpur route was completely disrupted giving a tough time to commuters.
The 100 kilometre-long Bolangir Nuapada route would pass through Hardatal, Chudapali, Patnagarh and Harisankar.
