Bargarh: The Odisha Assembly pandemonium over the suicide of a farmer in the district’s Kendapalli village of Sohela block has led to a probe by the Bargarh administration.
The farmer Khainu Bagarta is reported to have faced issues owing to power supply and damage of crops alongwith a pending loan following which he committed suicide on Monday. The suicide had led to agitation by farmers and locals who had blocked the Bargarh-Raipur National Highway demanding compensation for his family and punishment to the culprits behind the farmers death.
While Assistant Collector Bhimsen Punamkant had appealled the people to clear the blockade, no compensation was announced for the farmer’s family.
After there was ruckus in the Assembly by Congress leaders, the issue has been taken up by Bargarh administration. The local Tahsildar, Sohela BDO, District Agriculture Department Officer have reached the Kendapali village and met the farmer’s family to begin the probe.
