Pregnant woman ferried across river on Bamboo raft in Rayagada
Rayagada: In yet another incidence of the ailing healthcare facilities in the backward districts of the State, some youths in Rayagada district on Friday risked their lives in ferrying a pregnant woman on a bamboo raft across the turbulent Kalyani River.
Reports said nearly eight to nine youths risked their lives to shift the pregnant woman to the Kalyansinghpur hospital as the road communications in the remote area was disrupted after a bridge at Purunabhatta was damaged by floods in Kalyani river on July 16. Local residents claimed that with no other alternative, they had take risks shift the woman to the hospital.
However, the role of the district administration was criticised by the social activists as information about pregnant women in respective areas is available with ASHA workers.
