Berhampur: Tension prevailed in Berhampur University after two groups of students entered into a violent clash leaving two students injured on Tuesday night, ahead of students’ union election.

Two injured students have been admitted to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital here.

According to sources, last night few senior students along with other non-students called the juniors to attend a meeting regarding the upcoming students’ election.

But when the juniors refused to attend the meeting, they were allegedly beaten up with bats, stumps, sticks, and iron rods.

Two platoons of the police force have been deployed in the college campus in order to maintain law and order.

Reportedly, many students protested in front of the administrative building to discuss the issue with the Registrar today. They also demanded action against the accused students.

When asked, one of the injured students said, “The seniors forced us for the meeting. But when we refused to attend the meeting, six to seven seniors thrashed us mercilessly.” He also added that the security guards, who were present at the scene also preferred to stay down during the attack.”
