Bhubaneswar: A section of the national media tipped senior leader of Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and Rajya Sabha member Prasanna Acharya to be the next Deputy Chairman in the Upper House following the end of term of PJ Kurien this month.
The senior BJD leader, however, said he was not aware of any such development. Acharya said the party president and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik will take the final call on these matters.
According to sources, the election for the deputy chairman in the Rajya Sabha is likely to be conducted in the monsoon session of the Parliament.
Apart from Acharya, the name of Trinamool Congress MP Sukhendu Roy is also doing the rounds as a contender for the post.
