New Delhi: Former President Pranab Mukherjee, a lifelong Congressman, will address an event of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), the organisation frequently criticised by Rahul Gandhi.
A top Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) official has confirmed that the former President will address 600 workers at the organisation’s headquarters in Nagpur on June 7.
“Former President Pranab Mukherjee’s acceptance to attend the RSS event in Nagpur sends a message to the country that on vital issues there should be dialogue and adversaries are not enemies, an RSS leader said terming it a significant message.
The address is planned for the Third Year Sangha Shiksha Varga (SSV) which began on May 13, is being attended by over 600 participants from all over the country.
“We had extended an invitation to the former president to address RSS workers at our headquarters in Nagpur. He has accepted our invitation and will be present at the event,” the RSS official said.
Mukherjee (82) demitted office of president in July 2017. Prior to that, he worked closely as a Congressman with both former Prime Ministers Indira and Rajiv Gandhi and served as finance minister in the UPA II government led by ex-prime minister Manmohan Singh.
