Bhubaneswar: Odisha cadre IPS officer and former DGP of the State Police Prakash Mishra was appointed as the Director General of Central Civil Defence by the Union Government on Monday.
Mishra was currently engaged with the Uttarakhand Government as an advisor of the Uttarakhand Governor, after his retirement. He retired as the CRPF DG on February 29.
As the DGP of Odisha Police, Mishra had made his name in curbing the Maoist menace in the State. But he had to be a victim of severe criticism and allegations in the last days of his tenure as the DGP and even when he was on Central deputation. It was the Supreme Court which provided clean chit to his image and he gained his reputation.
