Bhubaneswar: Pradip police on Wednesday raided the residence of industrialist Mahimananda Mishra, owner of Odisha Stevedores Limited (OSL), in Baramunda area of Bhubaneswar for his alleged complicity in the murder of Mahendra Swain (46), general manager of Hyderabad-based Seaways Shipping and Logistics limited (SSLL).
“Mishra is on the run since the murder. We had specific information about his presence in his Baramunda house. Our teams raided in the early hours. But he was absent. Our efforts are on to nab him,” said Jagatsinghpur SP Jai Narayan Pankaj. The police had already raided Mishra’s OSL office in Cuttack and Paradip.
Swain was gunned down by four unidentified assailants on October 26 in Paradip while he was on his way to office. After the murder, Rajkishor Swain, elder brother of Mahendra, had filed an FIR accusing Mahimananda and three of his employees at OSL of hiring contract killers to bump off his brother. Besides Mahimananda, the other three named in the FIR are Basant Bal (general manager), Subash Acharya (operation manager) and Debi Tripathy (senior manager). On November 4, the police had issued look-out notices against all the accused to prevent them from leaving the country.
On November 17, the police arrested accused Riyasat Hussain, Muhammad Samin, Rakesh Chaubey, Manoj Gochhayat and Shiva in connection with the murder.
