Utkal Divas is celebrated on April 1 when the sacrifices of great sons of the soil for formation of Odisha are recalled. Odisha was the first State to be formed on linguistic basis in 1936.
Social reformers like Utkal Gaurav Madhusudan Das, Utkalmani Gopabandhu Das, Maharaja Shri Ramachandra Bhanjadeo, Maharaja Shri Krushna Chandra Gajapati, Raja Baikunthanath Dey, Fakir Mohan Senapati, Gangadhar Meher and Gourishankar Ray played pivotal roles in the fight for the political identity of Odisha.
On the other hand, renowned sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik created a sand sculpture on the occasion of Odisha Day with message “Happy Utkal Divas “, today at Puri.
