Kantabanjhi: Scores of people from Kantabanjhi in Bolangir district today gheraoed the local police station and submitted a written complaint to the police against Kantabanjhi MLA Hajimuhammad Ayub Khan for allegedly assaulting one of his party worker and threatening to kill him.

According to the complaint, a resident of Kuibahal village under Turekela block, Subash Putel along with two others identified as Mahendra Kumar and Harisingh Bag on Friday had gone to meet the MLA to request him to provide houses for two poverty-stricken families in the village under PMAY.

However, MLA Ayub Khan instead of hearing to their plea allegedly thrashed Putel accusing him of politicising the matter. The MLA allegedly abused Putel and also threatened to kill him, the complaint further stated.

Meanwhile some locals have alleged that the MLA, during his tenure has hardly done any developmental works in the area. They have even alleged that those who turned up to complaint had to face the wrath of the MLA.

According to sources, two year ago the MLA had grabbed a land belonging to a dalit family. Besides, the MLA’s relatives had allegedly abducted two contractors of Lathore for extorting money from their family three months ago. Both the cases have been registered with the local police.

Later the accused persons said to be the relatives of the MLA were arrested in this regard. Moreover the MLA’s son was also accused of extorting money by fixing tenders of civil construction projects in the area, said a source.

When asked about the issue, MLA Ayub Khan refuted the allegations of assaulting Subash. He said: “In my absence, Subash had come to my office in an inebriated condition and started hurling abuses. On getting the information, I reached the office and told him not to make nuisance, following which left.”

Khan alleged that Subash had lodged the complaint under the influence of others, who have plotted to defame him.

On being asked about the issue, Kantabanjhi inspector-in-charge Anand Chandra Majhi said: “We have received complaint from Subash Putel against the local MLA while the clerk in the MLA’s office has also lodged a complaint against Subash.” Majhi said adding that based on both the complaints a probe has been initiated in this regard.
