Bhubaneswar: Orissa High Court on Thursday served notices to Union and State Health Secretaries, Malkangiri Collector to keep their views on a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) on Japanese Encephalitis outbreak.
The apex court has asked the secretaries and collector to answer within two weeks.
With the state and the Union Government unable to control the death toll of the dreaded disease as it has claimed more than a hundred lives so far a PIL was filed in the state’s apex court on November 12.
Meanwhile the state government has started training for health staffs for mass inoculation programme against the disease.
Sources said more than 25 lakh children aged one to 15 years have been targeted to be covered under the mass vaccination programme in two phases in Malkangiri, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar and Jajpur districts.
Vaccination is set to begin from first week of December.
