New Delhi: The Parliament pays obituary to eminent socialist leader and former Lok Sabha Speaker Late Rabi Ray today who passed away due to age-related ailments on March 6.
However, the Parliament also mourned the death of a sitting MP and former members including – P Shiv Shankar, Syed Shahabuddin and Haji Abdul Salam.
The Upper House was adjourned for the day today without transacting any business as a mark of respect for its departed member Haji Abdul Salaam.
With this Rajya Sabha Chairman Hamid Ansari expressed deep condolences in his obituary references and both the Houses observed silence for sometime as a mark of respect to the former members.
Born on November 26, 1926 Rabi Ray was the Union minister of Health and Family welfare from January 1979 to 1980 and served as the Speaker of ninth Lok Sabha from 1989-1991.
He had also represented Odisha in the Upper House form April 1974 to April 1980. Hamid Ansari said he was a distinguished parliamentarian, an able administrator and a dedicated social worker.
