Bhubaneswar: India grabbed an all important win against the black caps in the first of the five ODI match series on Sunday.
A man of the match performance from Hardik Pandya followed by an unbeaten half century from Virat Kohli steered the hosts to the win.
The black caps could only manage a below standard 190 with all wickets down thanks to a disciplined bowling from Hardik Pandya and Amit Mishra. Especially the debutant Pandya who knocked three important wickets grabbed the headlines.
With the visitors reduced to a paltry 65/7 NZ could have been more precarious but two fighting half centuries from Tom Latham and an unconventional Tim Southee, somehow saved the day for them.
But India continued its strolling form in the second innings with an 85 run knock from Virat Kohli who helped the hosts reach the target in only 33.1 overs with six wickets to spare.
While the hosts lead the series 1-0 the next match will be played at Kotla on October 20.
