Cuttack: The Orissa High Court today put a stay on the elections for the Nuapada Notified Area Council (NAC), which was scheduled to be held on April 3 this year along with Hindol and Attabira NACs.
The High Court passed the interim stay order while hearing a writ petition filed by Mahesh Kumar Nial over ward reservation of the NAC. It has fixed March 12 as the next date of hearing.
Notably, Nial had challenged the Nuapada Collector’s notification on ward delimitation and seat reservation for the upcoming polls at 14 wards of the local urban body.
Following the stay order, the SEC will no more issue a notification for poll in the Nuapada NAC, informed sources.
Earlier, the SEC on Tuesday had announced that elections in Nuapada, Hindol and Atabira NACs will be held on April 3.
