Cuttack: Orissa High Court today paved way for the Bijepur by-poll by closing the case was filed claiming irregularities during 2014 assembly election of Bijepur constituency in Bargarh district.
As the opposite party in the case, winning Congress MLA Subal Sahu is no more, the case has to be closed, the court stated.
BJD MP Prasanna Acharya, who had lost the election with a less margin of votes to the late MLA, had challenged his winning in the court.
However, after the death of the standing MLA, the current political scenario has taken a U-turn as late Sahu’s family and supporters joined BJD.
Furthermore, BJD has declared Rita Sahu, wife of the deceased legislator, as the party candidate for the Bijepur by-poll.
Following which, the family of the former MLA had submitted the death certificate of the lone opposite party in the case seeking closure of the case.
“We welcome the honourable High Court’s decision in Bijepur case. BJD is always ready for the by-election and will definitely win it,” said Acharya after the High Court verdict.
