Bhubaneswar: IAS officer and former ORHDC Managing Director Binod Kumar surrendered before the Special Vigilance Court here today.
The court had issued NBW against the tainted IAS officer for his involvement in Odisha Rural Housing Development Corporation (ORHDC) scam to the tune of Rs 55 lakh.
On July 3, the court had convicted Kumar and five others for their involvement in the scam.
During the hearing, Sanjay Mohanty, assistant manager of ORHDC, had appeared in the court. After taking into consideration the statements of the witnesses and other evidence, the court convicted the six accused.
The court sentenced Sanjay to nine years jail and imposed Rs 75,000 penalty. Similarly, the court issued non-bailable warrants (NBWs) against the five absentees.
Later, Ashish Kumar Nayak, one of the accused in the scam had surrendered before the vigilance on August 4 following which he was arrested.
In 2000, the Vigilance had registered a case against Kumar and the five employees of the corporation for their alleged involvement in the financial irregularities to the tune of Rs 55 lakh.
