Bhubaneswar: Opposition leaders of BJP and Congress reiterated over an affidavit made in the Orissa High Court in which the Jajpur’s Collector has denied that the spurt of death of infants at Nagada village in the district last was due to malnutrition.
In response to the HC’s notice pertaining to a PIL, Collector Ranjan kumar Das told the court that fever is the reason behind the deaths of all 19 children within three months last year at Nagada. The affidavit was filed in the court on Thursday.
The opposition leaders alleged that the Collector was compelled by the ruling BJD to make such an affidavit.
The PIL was filed by a voluntary organization alleging that the people of the village remain deprived of basic amenities such as drinking water, roads and electricity which led to infants’ deaths.
Notably, after preliminary hearing on the petition, HC issued notices to the Centre and State Government, including the district Collector in November last year to file their counters in form of affidavits.
