Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Congress will come out with the name of 50 of its candidates for the upcoming assembly elections slated for next year within a period of 15 days, Odisha Congress in-charge Jitender Singh said on Sunday.
Singh made the announcement after chairing the first meeting of the newly-formed Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) at the party headquarters here on Sunday.
Singh said a meeting of the Pradesh Election Committee (PEC) will be held tomorrow where the name of at least 50 candidates will be finalized. Criteria for selection of the candidates will be decided during the meeting, he added.
The two-day meeting of the newly-formed PCC committee began today which was attended by Singh, OPCC president Niranjan Patnaik, many senior leaders and district presidents.
“Issues like strategies for the ensuing assembly election, selection of candidates and distribution of tickets were discussed during the meeting. We will try to connect with the people in the booth level,” Singh added.
“The party will reach out to voters in every booth level. A special three-member committee will be formed in the booth-level. The committee will have a chairman and two members,” Patnaik said.
