Bhubaneswar: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Crime Branch on Thursday arrested a man on charges of defrauding a nationalised bank by availing loan on the basis of forged documents.
Sources said the accused, identified as Jayant Kumar Jena of Katana Bania under Rajkanika police limits in Kendrapada district, has been forwarded to the Court of SDJM Cuttack today.
According to sources, 85 persons had availed loans to the tune of Rs 2.26 crore under ‘Sarala Loan’ scheme from Allahabad Bank, Nayasarak Branch in Cuttack between December 2009 and March 2010 by producing forged documents in collusion with Rabindra Kumar Jena, Establishment Officer, Chief Engineer, Drainage at Gandarpur in Cuttack.
During the investigation, it was found that accused Jena had availed Rs 3 lakh by impersonating himself as the junior clerk in the Chief Engineer (Drainage) at Gandarpur.
Notably, police had arrested 23 persons and forwarded them to the court. Besides, 26 others who were arrested in this connection have been released on bail as per the order of the Orissa High Court.
This apart, the court of JMFC, Cuttack has convicted accused Rabindra Kumar Jena after completion of the trial against him. The trials of other accused persons are sub-judice while the investigation is underway.
