Cuttack: A day after the incident of a former student of the Ravenshaw University being roughed up by senior students sent shockwaves, police on Tuesday arrested a Plus Three third-year student and an inmate of the university’s Lalitgiri Hostel in connection with it.
The police said they have intensified efforts to nab the other culprits.
City DCP Akhileswar Singh said, “We have launched a manhunt to nab the other guilty students, who are on the run. We are also holding talks with the university authorities to ensure that such types of incidents do not occur in future.
The local Malgodown police also went to the Lalitgiri Hostel, where the victim was thrashed, and spoke to the inmates. But none of them were among the ten students who are alleged to be involved in the incident.
Meanwhile, the victim student’s mother met university Vice-Chancellor Prof Prakash Sarangi regarding the incident. Later, she said to media, “The University is not safe and secure for the students. The university authorities are not taking such a matter seriously. I do not want my son to study further in the institution.”
