Bhubaneswar: More than four years after the sensational murder of three of a family in a hotel in Puri, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested the prime accused in the case, Amit Agarwal (36), from Indore on Tuesday.
Agarwal, a resident of Brundaban in Ghaziabad of Uttar Pradesh, along with his wife Ankita Bansal, 4-year-old son Divyanshu and 7-year-old daughter Vani had checked into hotel Zamindar Palace situated along the sea beach and booked a double-bed room for seven days on December 9, 2013.
On December 14, 2013, Ankita and two children were found dead on their beds in the hotel room under mysterious circumstances. The forensic experts had claimed that they were drugged before being strangulated to death as no mark of struggle was noticed in the room.
Agarwal had managed to escape after committing the crime and was on the run. Later, the case was handed over to the CBI.
The Kolkata unit of the CBI had begun a probe into the gruesome murders on Oct 1, 2015. Acting on a tip-off, the CBI officials arrested Agarwal from Indore.
According to sources, Agarwal was staying in Indore by hiding his real identity and working under a contractor. He was produced in a court.
