Bhubaneswar: Despite a mini collapse, Odisha took lead against Karnataka in the Ranji Trophy match played at Airforce ground, Palam, New Delhi. By tea break on second day, Odisha was leading by 9 runs against Karnatak’s first innings total of 179 runs.
As seasoned all-rounder Biplab Samantaray, who is in good form this season, is batting on 44 along with young wicketkeeper Saurabh Rawat who is on 29, Odisha are all set to take a big lead and put pressure on the southern state team.
The morning started with captain Govinda Poddar and nigh-watchman Dhiraj Singh playing cautiously before the skipper being stumped by CM Gautam off Shreyas Gopal when the team score was 76. Three runs later Dhiraj was out for 8 runs and on the same team score Subhransu Senapati got out for 1 run. Then Biplab Samantray and middle order batsman Abhishek Yadav added 61 runs before Abhishek edged one to the keeper off Vinay Kumar’s bowl when the team score was 140 and Odisha was still trailing by 39 runs. Saurabh joined Biplab and both have already added 51 runs.
