Nabarangpur: Odisha police on Wednesday night rescued as many as 11 minor girls when they were allegedly being taken to Tamil Nadu from different parts of Nabarangpur district.
Police have also detained a person, identified as Tapan Nag alias Harijan of Hirli village under Papadahandi police limits, in this connection.
According to reports, around 11 pm last night Tapan was waiting for a Vishakhapatnam-bound bus along with the minor girls.
Getting information about the gathering of minor girls late at night at the area, police rushed the spot and rescued the girls foiling the trafficking bid.
Most of the rescued girls aged between 13-years to 17-years old belong to Jharigaon block while three of them hail from Dabugaon, Nandahandi and Papadahandi blocks each.
Tapan has confessed that he was taking the girls to provide jobs in a cotton mill at Tiruppur in Tamil Nadu.
The girls have been sent to a short stay home in the district.
