Bhubaneswar: Odisha government today launched an injection called Antara, a safe means of birth control for women in the state.
Addressing at the launching ceremony Health and Family Welfare Secretary Pramod Kumar Meherda said, “The injection is very safe to use for birth control and it is being used in over 130 countries in the world.”
“It will help women who are not able to convince their partners to use contraceptives. The availability of the injections may help reduce the maternal mortality rate and infant mortality rate in the state,” he added.
The injection is supposed to be used within a week from the day a woman’s menstrual cycle starts. The injections will be available for free at government medical colleges, district headquarters, sub divisional hospital and public health facilities in the state.
The injection, a safe means of birth control, is effective for three months.
