Bhubaneswar: The State Government’s Housing and Urban Development Department today entered into an agreement with Energy Efficiency Service Limited (EESL) for implemention of Street Light National Programme.
As per the provisions of the agreement, the conventional steet lights in all the 107 urban local bodies would be replaced by energy-efficient LED lights within a year as an urban transformation initiative as a result the amount of energy used will be reduced and maintenance cost would be minimized.
The combined impact of the initiative led jointly by the Central and State governments could help the state to acheive enery saving to the tune of 35.97 million units per annum and a total cost saving of about Rs 26.97 crore annually.
The Housing and Urban Development department and EESL will invest nearly Rs 75 crore in the next one year for LED street lights in the state, according to the agreement.
Maintenance and monitoring for a period of seven years will be taken care of by EEESL.
Meanwhile Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today launched energy efficient lighting initiative in 107 ULBs in the state.
