New Delhi: Odisha failed to defend 281 runs against Baroda and lost their second match in Group-A Vijay Hazare Trophy Interstate One Day Tournament at Feroz Shah Kotla ground in New Delhi today.
Opener Aditya Waghmode and all-rounder Deepak Jagbir Hooda hit half centuries to win the match by five wickets with 22 balls remaining. Waghmode scored 92 off 82 balls while Hooda remained not out till the end scoring 78 off 63 balls and hit the winning four off Suryakant Pradhan’s bowling who in the previous over had scalped Yusuf Pathan (38 off 55 balls). After the opening pair added a rapid 95 runs in 14 overs, it was the partnership of 109 runs between Yusuf and Hooda for 4th wicket that took the match out of Odisha’s reach. Dheeraj Singh took 2 wickets while Govinda Poddar and Anurag Sarangi took one wickets each.
Asked to bat first Odisha could make 281 runs in 50 overs losing 7 wickets. Captain Poddar scored 77 off 86 balls while openers Sandeep Pattnaik (29 off 38), Anurag Sarangi (37 off 58), middle order batters Subhranshu Senapati (35 off 51) and Abhishek Yadav (40 off 26 balls) contributed handsomely to the team total. Odisha could have scored more had Deepak Behera and Suryakant pradhan connected well in the last three overs, in which they could only make 16 runs. Swapnil K Singh for Baroda took 3 wickets while AT Rathore scalped 2.
With two defeats and one win Odisha is placed at fourth position in the seven membered group with three matches still to be played.
