Bhubaneswar: Odisha spinner Dhiraj Singh bagged 5 wickets to restrict Karnataka to 393 in their second innings on the fourth day of the Ranji Trophy match being played at Airforce Ground, Palam, New Delhi. Karnataka took a lead of 230 and set a target of 231 for Odisha to chase in just two sessions today.
The southern state started the day on 244 for 6 with wicketkeeper CM Gautam batting on 68 and Shreyas Gopal on 11. Though Gautam missed out a well deserved century and got out on 95 off Suryakant Pradhan’s bowling, Gopal made 77 and next batsman Gowtham K added 46 runs to take Karnataka to such a huge total before they were both bowled out by Dhiraj. After Gopal and Gowtham’s 86 run partnership was broken, their team folded out for 393. Odisha skipper Govinda Poddar also took 2 wickets while Suryakant, Biplab Samantray and Basant Mohanty pocketed one wicket each.
Earlier, Odisha had scored 342 runs in reply to Karnataka’s 179 runs in their first innings. It’s to be seen if Odisha is going for a win, as they have to chase a tricky target of 230 in less than two sessions or they would play for a draw, as they have already pocketed 3 points if none win the match.
