Cuttack: Odisha Director General of Police (DGP) Dr RP Sharma today held a meeting with top officials of the state police, CRPF and BSF to review the Left Wing Extremism (LWE) scenario in the state.
In this meeting, present naxal scenario and wide range of other issues relating to operational strategies and infrastructure related issues were discussed. The meeting appreciated the combined efforts of the state forces and the central forces in combating the naxal menace in which 39 naxals were neutralized, 50 naxal cadres/militias were arrested and 53 surrendered during the period 2016-17 till at present.
It was decided in the meeting to further intensify the anti-naxal operations in the affected areas, particularly in the inter-state border areas, with coordinated efforts and synergy between the state police forces and central forces.
A decision has also been taken to plug the security vacuum in sensitive areas by fast tracking re-deployment of the forces. The Union Government will be requested to provide two additional battalions of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) to the state at the earliest to address the symmetric deployment of security forces on the inter-state border.
