Bhubaneswar: Odisha has got the recognition as one among top five States in the country in power system availability and reduction in system loss because of the innovative reform measures taken over last years.
This was known from the review of the activities OPTCL and GRIDCO taken by Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi. Today morning Chief Secretary visited the offices of these two State PSUs and reviewed their activities in two separate meetings held in their respective conference halls.
Secretary Energy-cum- Chairman GRIDCO–cum-CMD OPTCL Hemant Sharma presented the updates and outlined the issues for discussion in these two meetings.
Reviewing the progress, Padhi advised the Officers and Engineers in both the Corporations to cultivate more proficiency in technical and develop a symbiosis model of the two in interest of the people and the State.
Review revealed that because of a series of internal restructuring and reforms in Odisha Power Transmission Corporation Ltd (OPTCL) during last 4 years, the live system availability and supply of quality power to consumers has significantly increased up to 99.98 %. During this period the transmission system loss has also been reduced by 26 points.
It may be pertinent here to mention that 1% reduction in AT & C loss saves around Rs.80 Cr. in power sector. As such, the reform and restructuring measures in the power generation, transmission and distribution sectors OPTCL decided to augment its infrastructure by adding 57 new sub-stations of different capacities ranging from 132 KV to 765 KV during the period.
