Rourkela: Odia girl Eeshanee Tripathy, a Class-XI student of Delhi Public School in the city, has bagged the first prize in Grade 11 category in the prestigious Nasa Ames Space Settlement Design Contest hosted by National Aeronautics and Space Administration (Nasa) and National Space Society.
Eeshanee’s project The Space Settlement of AURA was based on innovative designs and futuristic science as well as technologies feasible in space.
After winning the title, she has qualified to present her project in the 36th Annual International Space Development Conference at St Louis, USA, which will begin on May 25 and continue till May 29.
Eeshanee, daughter of Susmita Das, a professor at NIT, Rourkela, and Somanatha Tripathy, an Executive with Rourkela Steel Plant has said it her mother who is behind winning the title. She said it took more than a year to complete the project.
Apart from studies, Eeshanee is also an Odissi dancer, a public speaker, a voracious reader and a volunteer for social causes. She said she was inspired to do the project when she knew about India’s success in reaching Mars through Mangalayan.
Her other achievements also includes, getting junior fellowship in Odissi dance from the department of culture, Government of India. She was also honoured as the best child scientist of the state in the recent past by the department of science and technology, Government of India and represented the state in the National Children’s Science Congress.
