Novak Djokovic beats Kei Nishikori, reaches US Open finals
New York: Novak Djokovic reached the US Open final by defeating Kei Nishikori in the sets of 6-3, 6-4, and 6-2 in the semi-finals today.
Djokovic broke Nishikori in his first service game and closed out the opening set within 37 minutes without facing a break point.
In the second set, Nishikori improved, but Djokovic defended facing only two break points and broke the Japanese with the lead of 3-2.
Djokovic kept Nishikori under pressure by earning 17 break point opportunities and winning 80 percent of his own serve points to win in two hours and 23 minutes.
Novak Djokovic, this year’s Wimbledon champion, reached his eighth final at Flushing Meadows and ranks sixth this year.
Novak will face Juan Martin Del Potro in the final for the US Open title. Potro won the first semi-final earlier after defending champion Rafael Nadal retired due to his knee injury in the second set.
