Bhubaneswar: Hundreds of Gram Rozgar Sevaks (GRSs) under banner of Nikhil Odisha Gram Rozgar Sevak Sangh (NOGRSS), demanding regularisation of their jobs, gheraoed the official residence of School and Mass Education Minister Debi Prasad Mishra on Saturday.
The GRSs have been staging a dharna for over a week, at the lower PMG area, pressing their demands on the State Government and protesting against the government’s apathy.
Earlier on Thursday, during an indefinite strike here before the State Assembly, they planned to gherao the official residence of Finance Minister Pradeep Amat. Similarly on Wednesday the protestors had held a rally demanding that the Government regularise their jobs in the panchayat bodies.
Even if the GRS play vital role in the functioning of the State Government by supervising schemes like MGNREGS, Indira Awas Yojana, Bigu Pucca Ghar Yojana, at panchayat levels, they have to satisfy their pockets with a mere salary of Rs 5000 per month.
BJP and Congress leaders have visited the striking GRS workers and extended their support but still their demands have fallen on deaf ear.
